So who is Ella Bennett and is she a fashionista diva designer from the catwalks of Milan, Paris or New York? Well no, she is just a woman like you and I, and she is from right here in the UK.
When I had the pleasure of meeting this remarkable woman I was blown away with just how modest but yet amazing she was.
So here I was walking up to Starbucks in Charring Cross, a few minutes late and quite nervous about meeting the woman who was about to make a revolutionary breakthrough in fashion for women of ethnicity. Expecting to come face to face with an “oh darling” diva of fashion, but to my very pleasant surprise I was greeted by a warm soft smile, from a quiet but by no means timid young woman. Stunning but a little understated, Ella Bennett was definitely a feminist of fashion that I could get behind.
After a short conversation I learned that Ella was also of mixed heritage, Jamaican and Jewish and while she may be making leaps and bounds forward in the fashion industry Ella actually has an LLB in Commercial Law from the university of Westminster, and an MSc in Environmental Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science. So why would a woman with such a promising career in Law change to tights?
Then it dawns on you, like many revolutions this one was born from necessity, Ella’s colour revolution comes from the need for better colour choices to wear to work, synagogue, church, under shorts, short dresses and skirts.
As modern women we have so many demands on us, as mothers’, wives, professionals’, students’, active members of our religious communities and other social obligations, and each of them and societies media demand that we look our best at all times.
